Alaskan guided tours
They say that everything's bigger in America... and Alaska is the biggest state of all. Covering more than 663,268 square miles, Alaska is about seven times the size of the United Kingdom. But it's also the least densely populated state, leaving vast stretches of unspoilt wilderness.
Embark on an Alaskan cruise and you’ll discover a breathtakingly scenic region of intricate fjords, blue-streaked glaciers, snow-capped mountains and pristine valleys. Roaring, glacier-fed rivers are patrolled by families of grizzlies, bald eagles soar overhead, and whales are frequently spotted in the coastal waters.
A fascinating cultural heritage also awaits discovery, from vibrant Native American communities to onion-domed cathedrals that dates back to the days when this land was under Russian ownership. You can discover this and more on our Alaska holidays.
More information about Alaska
Our Alaska tours are designed to showcase the glorious wilderness of this rugged state. Journeying in a loop from Anchorage, you’ll visit national parks, see North America’s highest mountain, carve along scenic highways and travel on the Alaskan railroad. The hotels are handpicked, the excursions carefully selected, and the route meticulously planned – it’s adventure made effortless.
Our Alaska holidays aren't just land-based, though. We also offer ocean cruises – one of the best ways to experience the glorious scenery of the 49th state. From the deck of a ship, you can enjoy panoramic views of majestic cliffs, icebergs and the small islands that dot the coast. You'll also have plenty of chances to explore on foot, giving you the opportunity to taste local dishes, learn about the state’s history and culture, and do a bit of shopping. Alaskan cruises combine perfectly with our Canadian tours, giving you two fantastic holidays in one.
The best holiday packages to Alaska will take the stress out of planning a trip to this epic state - and that's exactly what we do. We'll painstakingly plan out the route, book the hotels, and ensure everything from park entry to rail tickets is taken care of. We'll even include VIP transfers from home to the airport (and back), to ensure every moment of your adventure is effortless.
From London to Alaska is approx. 9 hours and 30 minutes.
Ketchikan
Situated within the Tongass National Forest, Ketchikan is one of the southernmost cities in Alaska - and it's likely to surprise you with its temperate weather and evergreen forests. Watersports like kayaking and canoeing are popular activities, while sports fishing, diving and mountain biking are other options for those who want to get active. Meanwhile, small boat tours will give you the chance to see marine life and the breathtaking fjords - a highlight of Alaska holidays.
Ketchikan is also known for its vibrant artistic community. Walking around town, you’ll spot a number of galleries and shops that showcase the works of residents.
Denali National Park
Sprawling across around six million acres (with a single road cutting through it), this national park gives you a taste of true Alaskan wilderness. It’s home to the ‘Alaskan Big Five’ – grizzly bears, Dall sheep, caribou, moose and wolves – and is watched over by mighty Mount Denali, the highest peak in North America.
We usually stay a few miles from the park entrance on our Alaska tours, so it’s easy to explore on your day at leisure. Ask your tour manager for ideas of what to do or where to go.
Juneau
The Alaskan state capital, Juneau is named after a gold prospector who arrived in the area in the 1880s. A beautiful city, located on the Gastineau Channel, it’s known for its small-town feel and stunning natural surroundings.
From exploring Mendenhall Glacier, through to whale watching, tours of goldmines and checking out the spectacular views offered by the Mountain Tramway, there's plenty to keep you busy. Plus, there's the friendly city, which offers plenty for art lovers and those interested in indigenous crafts, as well as historic pubs, amazing restaurants and microbreweries.
Skagway
Often called the Gateway to the Klondike, Skagway has been inhabited since prehistoric times, but first rose to prominence during the gold rush during the late 1880s, as it offered one of the most easily accessible routes to the gold that was thought to be found in Canada's Yukon Territory. It's also one of the main settings in Jack London's book ‘The Call of the Wild’.
There are a number of ways to explore Skagway, from walking tours and horse riding excursions, through to helicopter rides, rafting tours, cycling or even by dogsled. For a bit of history, head off to the Skagway Museum or explore the Gold Rush Cemetery and the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
